What are UPC & ISRC Codes?
ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is a unique code that identifies a specific track of a release. Every ISRC code is generated and used only once and it cannot be duplicated and applied to another music recording.
UPC (Universal Product Code) is a unique code that is applied to identify a single or a group of recordings, such as an EP or album. Every UPC code is generated and used only once and it cannot be duplicated and applied to another music recording.
All releases must contain a unique UPC and ISCR code to be distributed.
However, the difference between codes is that the ISRC code is assigned only to tracks.
In cases of an album or EP, each track is identified with a unique ISRC code, while a UPC code identifies an album, EP, or single as a whole.
